The Girl who Fell to Earth
This collection of images are based on English fairy tales and other stories I read as an English girl, where dreams come to represent reality, where a character is being given a vision of an indisputable truth, through which they learn something about themselves or their situation.
In a dream we learn something about our nature, or the nature of life, and this is truly international, touching on our ancient selves, we are all part of the same stories and our ideas meet in these stories, in the symbols and visions they represent.
Often these truths are expressed through the unreal - animals and people become interchangeable, strange inhuman characters inhabit this fairy tale universe, there are elements of the sacrifice, of love and cruelty, of strange eternal dream-filled sleep.
Together my children and I created The Girl Who Fell to Earth, the story of a girl who lives in the wild, and these are some of the images.
