Sleeping Beauty
Omid Salehi

IRAN

Mohammad Taghi Taher Zade has been in coma for the past 18 years. When he was at the age of 17, he lapsed into a coma on June 5th 1986, following a shockwave from an explosion in Iran-Iraq war.

Eighteen year ago his parents were told he would only live for 70 days, yet he continues living.

He is among his family in Isfahan. His father and mother take very good care of him every morning till night. His father was a taxi driver but now he is paid by the government because of his son and he doesn’t work anymore.

They clean him with a wet towel everyday and give him a shower. They cut his hair and shave him once a month.

Every two hours the father massages him in order to prevent bedsores.

They feed him and give his medicine through his nose.

His father and mother are fighting against the devil of coma and death, though his father believes that “Life means war”.
