Healing
Sport
Healing Sport is a project
that deals with the central issue of globalization, the fact
that the free flow of money and commerce around the world
only contributes to create greater divides on our planet.
It shows how the poorer nations have invented their own means
of conducting sport, outside of the organised framework so
often exemplified by the richer countries. In countries wracked
by war, sport becomes a means of retaining what it means to
be alive.
The work is also attempts
to provide a framework in which to analyse the more disturbing
issues. Can a young man who had his leg blown off by a mine
become whole again? Can children who were forced to maim and
kill be reintegrated with other innocents? Can people who
grow up on the streets learn to become part of society? Can
a society fragmented by war find ways to become united?
